The Pakistan Cricket Board has recently disclosed the names of match officials for the upcoming 8th season of the HBL Pakistan Super League. The tournament will take place in four different venues from February 13th to March 19th. Matches held in Multan and Karachi will occur from February 13th to 26th, followed by games in Lahore and Rawalpindi from February 26th to March 19th. Three members of the ICC's elite panel of umpires, Aleem Dar, Richard Illingworth, and Michael Gough, will be joined by Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, Rashid Riaz, Faisal Khan Afridi, Martin Saggers, Ruchira Palliyaguruge, Alex Wharf, and Shozab Raza. They will be backed by Muhammad Asif, Nasir Hussain, and Tariq Rasheed who will serve as fourth umpires. Former ICC elite panel of match referees member Roshan Mahanama will lead a team of five referees that includes Ali Naqvi, Iftikhar Ahmed, Javed Malik, and Muhammad Anees. Wharf, who played 13 ODIs for England, and Saggers, who played in three Tests for England, as well as Sri Lanka's Palliyaguruge, who are all part of the ICC's international panel of umpires, will make their HBL PSL debut. Gough will be appearing in his fourth HBL PSL while Illingworth will be in his sixth. The opening match between Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans in Multan will be officiated by Asif Yaqoob and Martin Saggers, with Faisal Afridi as third umpire and Shozab Raza as fourth umpire. Mohammad Anees will serve as the match referee. For the match between Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi in Karachi on February 14th, Ali Naqvi will head the Playing Control Team, with Ahsan Raza and England's Alex Wharf as on-field umpires, Ruchira Palliyaguruge as third umpire, and Tariq Rasheed as fourth umpire. The tournament will feature 15 commentators and two presenters, including Alan Wilkins, Bazid Khan, Danny Morrison, Daren Ganga, Dominic Cork, Mark Butcher, Nick Knight, Sana Mir, Sikandar Bakht, Simon Doull, Urooj Mumtaz, Vernon Philander, and Waqar Younis who will provide English commentary, while Marina Iqbal and Tariq Saeed will provide Urdu commentary. The presenters will be Erin Holland and Zainab Abbas. For the 8th season of the HBL PSL, two full production crews will be in operation simultaneously, which will only be the second time since the 5th season of HBL PSL and the first time in the post-Covid era. The high-definition broadcast will be equipped with 30 cameras, along with Spidercams and buggy cams, to enhance the viewing experience for fans both in and outside of Pakistan.
